- Diverse Specimen Exposure: Our group services two hospitals affiliated with Banner MD Anderson and operates a private pathology laboratory. PAs rotate through each location, experiencing a wide variety of specimens and complexities. At Banner Gateway hospital, you'll encounter a high volume of breast, GI, and head and neck specimens. Banner Desert offers a diverse specimen range, including bone and soft tissue tumors, occasional Wilms' tumors, and other pediatric cases.
- State-of-the-Art Facilities: In December 2024, our private lab moved to a new, larger facility featuring the latest grossing technology, providing an enhanced work environment. Pathologist offices will be on-site, fostering close collaboration and consultation on challenging cases.
- Additional Benefits: Our PAs have the opportunity to earn extra compensation through our partnership with the Donor Network of Arizona. Team members are also scheduled for a set number of weekend grossing sessions each year, with the flexibility to choose which weekends they work. These scheduled Saturday/Sunday sessions also provide an opportunity to earn additional accrued PTO.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of a pathologist, independently performs or assists in the dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Performs and/or assists pathologists in the dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of anatomical specimens.
- Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations, within the established protocol and procedural parameters.
- Coordinates the acquisition of tissue specimens used for research purposes.
- Performs specimen photography as needed.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT: - Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
- Must understand and be able to adhere to biohazardous specimen handling requirements.
- Must undergo blood-borne pathogens and hazardous waste training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologist Assistant program preferred or equivalent experience directly in pathology and grossing.
- ASCP-certified, or eligible to sit for the exam within 6 months.
